Taking a leaf from Ticky's book and saving the link to the "WHAT DOES DEVIT THINK OF HUMANS" srs poll answer here!
Recent threads have lead me to think! What does your character think about humanity as a whole? Innately good, evil? Overall kind or cruel? Worthwhile or not? Funny or sordid? DO TELL.
Devit hates humans. Some of this, OBVIOUSLY, is attributable to the Noah and the Bonds. SEE TICKY'S ANSWER. Some of this is lol headcanon, kinda? Because I love speculating on the Noah's memories and the Bonds in particular. When it comes to Noah, he's the guy who was the SAVED ONE when humanity was so absolutely disgusting and sinful that God decided to destroy them all, leaving him all alone in the world. As (half of) the Bonds memory, Devit is PRETTY FUCKING BITTER about that. The Noah in his head tells him never to forgive either God or humanity for leaving him so devastatingly lonely. THE BONDS OF NOAH WERE ALL BROKEN, YOU SEE, so it kinda sucks to be Jasdevi, because that's his memory--God taking everyone and everything away from him. It's God's fault for being a prick, and it's also humanity's fault for being SO ROTTEN that God had to do it.
Noah remembers how bad humans were back then and how bad they've been SINCE, so really he (Noah/Devit) does know that humanity is shitty and sinful and can't be redeemed and they should just all be wiped out. lol Noah thing. It's something Devit cannot ever be talked out of, because the Noah in his head tells him it's a FACT and shows him the PROOF in the form of the Bonds memories. It'd be like trying to argue someone out of the fact that grass is green, it's . . . there's no point! He also understands that humans don't GET this and that they never can. He just accepts that. It only bothers him when they get in his face about it, or when they think they can and refuse to leave him alone on the issue. Part of being a Noah is HAVING THIS KNOWLEDGE because you are special and superior and you can't expect a human to understand, they're too biased and too ignorant and too close to the situation!
So basically to Devit humans are insignificant worms who deserve the death they're going to get, because this is what the Noah tells him. They're also very impermanent and unreal to him, thanks to the Bonds being his memory. Everyone abandons you! Everyone leaves! Because everyone dies! That's what happened to Noah way back when, that's how everything ends! So Devit's also bitter about THAT. He knows that all relationships are impermanent and he hates it so much, because it hurts to be left alone. He has Jasdero and that's all he feels he should need, so he tries to drive people away and has no shame or guilt about killing them off because they're HUMANS, they all die ANYWAY, it's just happening sooner this way and I can control it and! It's better not to open yourself up to being hurt by creatures like humans who can only leave you, one way or another.
That's kind of the NOAH STUFF, but there's also the DEVIT STUFF. Devit is a new-ish Noah and he also appears to have quite a bit of control over his Noah urges--he blatantly ignores Innocence MOST of the time in canon. He acts mostly on his DEVIT urges and not what the Noah is telling him to do. But unfortunately, the Devit part of him also hates humanity. We get these asides during the fight with Crowley and just general slips of the tongue and aspects of his personality that indicate that Jasdevi had a bad experience, or multiple bad experiences, with humans after becoming a Noah. That he was called a monster and disgusting and avoided and all that. So Devit also believes in a HUMAN sense that human beings are cruel, horrible creatures who shun anyone who's not like them and judge people and make them cry and feel bad. He's really . . . sensitive to what people think of him, and people tease him and freak out about what he is, so he hates them, because why waste love on something that hates you and is going to die soon anyway? It's really the SAME ISSUE of "Everyone leaves or betrays me in the end," doubled up as both a Noah complex and a Devit complex.
Plus, his personality and his reactions and way of speaking don't help. Sometimes Devit will get into a GOOD MOOD--this is what happened to him last week that led to him emotionally crashing a couple days ago--and he decides that he wants to go fuck around and be social! But he's a social retard, so he usually ends up getting teased somehow, and this just sends him spiraling back into FUCK HUMANITY mode, where he doesn't want to talk to anyone because GOD PEOPLE SUUUUCK.
So. Devit's hatred of humans is a double-barreled shotgun of "the Noah says humans are sinful pigs" and "I'm an emotional teenage boy who isn't good with people and obviously this is their fault." The former CANNOT EVER CHANGE or even have a dent put into it, and he embraces it fully and knowingly. The latter--can be broken down a little! It is possible for humans to get past his defenses and make it into the strange territory of "You're human but I like you so you're obviously a special human and you belong to me now." And Devit is extremely possessive, so this can somewhat trump the Noah willingness to kill that human and disregard of their life--that human IS MINE so I'm not going to kill them because they ARE MINE! Because the Bonds are lonely and tend to get clingy with things LOL HUGE ABANDONMENT COMPLEX.
But any person like that is an exception and not a rule. No matter how much Devit may like one human, or two humans, or even two dozen humans, his overall opinion of humanity cannot ever improve or be Jesused out of him, because he's a Noah and that's what it means to BE a Noah. It's just that THESE humans are More Okay so they can stick around, even though they're going to leave him behind eventually anyway because humans are weak and bigoted and mortal and . . . ;;
