VIPER
Viper's feelings on being touched are complicated, and I'm picking him because I didn't actually go into the whole issue in that poll. And because you love him, I KNOW YOU DO, who would NOT.

Sooo . . . as an adult, Viper wasn't big on touch. He had a bubble that Colonello liked to invade, Reborn probably did too, in the Arco SET he was totally abused because it was funny to them. So yeah he got draped on and he bitched and hated it but was kinda tsundere about it, you know how it is.

NOW . . . he's a baby. And that changes things in a few ways. For one thing, people LOVE to pick him up, even people who don't know him! And this is so, so aggravating to him. On the other hand, it also makes interaction easier, and he knows it. He doesn't have Mosca in camp to carry him around so he's at eye level, and official art indicates that Bel does this to him a lot too and he doesn't have a Bel anymore either. So sometimes it's just practical to be picked up. And he's slowly come to not mind that much. He doesn't LIKE it per se. But if someone picks him up and holds him kind of--away, he's cool with it. He even tries to induce it sometimes, although he refuses to ask--he just hints in very quiet ways.

When people CUDDLE him he gets snippy, unless he knows them very well. Like Axel has free reign to snuggle Viper all he wants. BUT THE THING ABOUT THIS . . . well. . . . Viper is still a grown man on the inside. And as he gets more comfortable with touch and all that, he realizes what's really happening, which is that something highly inappropriate is going on but the state of his body sort of allows both parties to pretend that it's not. He knows that once he gets his adult body back, there's not going to be any more uh. Sitting on Axel's lap and being hugged and falling asleep in people's beds and whatnot. Because he's A GROWN MAN and he's also not that KIND of grown man. In this way, his body has affected his personality over time, and he HATES that. The baby body has allowed him to be complacent with these totally boundary-crossing displays of affection because HE'S JUST A BABY, IT'S AWWWWRIGHT.

But he's not just a baby, really. So he can write off the whole touch thing as being a side effect of the curse, and it really is, but the fact remains that in a way he's a grown man who is letting all of this happen, and that goes against his normal personality, which means that in a sense the curse has won. Which pisses him off because he HATES giving in to the curse on anything. But at the same time, it just . . . feels natural. THE BODY HAS POWER, he realizes this, there are influences that a body has on a person's personality. He hates it but he bends a little for very special people because it's . . . nice. |<

Also? He's going to miss it when he gets his adult body back. And THAT really, really pisses him off.

I'd say a good amount on one about equals a small bit on three. Funny enough, Viper, like Dera, is on Zexion's do-not-touch-ever lists, because he knows that both have minor reactions to it, and that it'd be a kind of... breach of decorum in Mammon's case. Appearances don't matter much when you travel words, and despite the tendency to nap, Mammon certainly seems enough like an adult in other ways, and Mukuro's memories certainly imply that the Arcobaleno are all competent in their ways. ... ignoring that time he turned Mammon's binding chain into a snake. And a chain of daisies.

YOUR ESSAYS ARE FAST. And yes we totally do. Especially now that I'm back to being me again.

SHIRLEY
Shirley's a girl who's had a really . . . bad time of socialization. In the game we find out about halfway through the MQ, though it was obvious before, that she's never really had a friend, and she doesn't understand how friends work. She had her sister and Senel, and that was about it. Shirley's whole childhood and early teenhood was one of being sheltered, avoided, hidden from the world, whispered about behind her back, and treated as a sort of holy object, not to be touched or endangered or. Made friends with, really.

Now Shirley's post-game, which means she's gone through, god. Just about everything horrible a person can go through, and a lot of wonderful things too. She has friends now! For the first time! And family and a place in the world, she's totally zen and cool with her duties (uh mostly), and so on. But she's still a 15 year old girl who didn't have a single friend for 15 years. So she's kind of shaky on the finer points of social interaction. And she's a person who's very concerned with the feelings and comfort and happiness of others.

So Shirley is nervous about initiating contact. She doesn't mind when people do it to her, although it makes her blush and startle a little, and if people like . . . get on her . . . she will be Unhappy in a quiet, firm way. And if someone needs comfort, she will rest a hand on them, or something like that. But when it comes to hugging friends or whatever, she's still so totally unsure of the boundaries that she errs on the side of caution. She doesn't want to put people off and she still doesn't really know enough to be able to READ who will be put off and under what circumstances. So Shirley is a physically rather reserved girl. Being touched is nice, as long as it's appropriate, but touching others is something she's still learning how to deal with, along with like, EVERYTHING ELSE ABOUT BEING A GOOD FRIEND. :(

I'LL DO IT WHEN I DO THE ESSAY ON LIKE, HOW VARIOUS PEOPLE/BEINGS PING TO DEVIT IN THE SENSE OF HOW MUCH THEY AFFECT HIS WORLD :( Which will be someday. LONG STORY SHORT, unless you're a Noah, if you're a woman you automatically do not have as big an effect on Devit and he's less likely to remember or care about anything about you. He doesn't hate women and he's not scared of them, he just. Doesn't get them and doesn't care enough to try, and he also assumes they all dislike him, even moreso than he does with men (and really he assumes EVERYONE dislikes him).

Let's see. When they met, Devit GENUINELY DID NOT LIKE HAKUREN. I remember that first thread was hilarious because Hakuren was BEING HAKUREN, which is to say he was all "Oh you like me, you think I'm sexy, you want to be my friend, I know I know! I rule!" And Devit REALLY DIDN'T, and it pissed him off a LOT. He hates it when people get things wrong about him just as much as he hates it when people get things RIGHT about him. Yes, he hates both. Devit is angry a lot, okay. So basically he thought Hakuren was just a gigantic dumbass tool who should die! Well, he wasn't THAT pissed. He didn't want to kill him. But yeah.

The thing with Devit though is that him hating you is not necessarily a bad foot to start off on. Devit is NOT GOOD with people who are excessively nice to him right off the bat, because his assumption is that they're lying. Who would ever have a reason to be nice to him? They must be stupid humans who think he's a disgusting monster and are trying to be nice to him so he won't kill them, but they're stupid, he'll kill them anyway! >( And so on. So people who start off being assholes to Devit . . . he doesn't LIKE them for it, and sometimes he never does end up liking them at all (see Agito, etc.). But they're slightly, very slightly more interesting, and slightly more worthy of respect.

So Hakuren was this LOL U LIEK ME RITE? 8D kind of guy, and he was also a priest, which Devit found really funny because. PRIESTS. PFFFT! HOW STUPID CAN YOU GET! THE CHURCH IS ALL LIES AND HUMAN SICKNESS! And so on. So Devit . . . basically, he wanted to get one up on Hakuren, the more they spoke. Hakuren was SO CONFIDENT and Devit is--not, so he's kind of naturally "rar" towards that type (although he also finds it extremely attractive, but. Later, okay). And they could talk religion together too, so Devit kinda started to get curious, like "I really wanna tear this stupid guy and his stupid ideals down and make him feel bad about himself so he stops being so fucking full of himself, and I can DO IT because he's a religious hypocrite and this is something I know about."

So that was kinda what it was like for the first few conversations! But hey, for some reason, it was just . . . really easy for them to talk. And Devit, while he doesn't really respect humans or believe in their goodness as a rule, had maybe a teeny bit of interest in Hakuren because his life had been pretty messed up and he was sort of strong for a weak, stupid human. Again, the fact that Hakuren was a cocky asshole made this a bit easier. Devit's PRETTY PUT OFF by Jesus-types unless they're Watanuki, and even Watanuki puts him off sometimes. But with Hakuren it was like "Oh yeah I have faith in God and I fight for my ideals and I forgive people and humans are good and I love my mother, oh and also you LOVE ME, I am SO FULL OF MYSELF and BEAUTIFUL and you're so cute when you're in denial tee hee!" Which made him more interesting! Not to mention that his world itself is interesting. It's totally different from like, Christianity, so Devit doesn't really have the same . . . contempt for Hakuren as he would for a Christian priest. He hadn't realized this at first! But then he found out and, well, it's a different universe with a different God, not the God who betrayed him and left Noah all alone and led to the Bonds being fucked up in the head and full of painful memories.

So like, over time, Devit realized he was actually enjoying these conversations, even though it was mostly bickering! And Hakuren was still doing the "YOU LIIIIIKE ME~" thing, and it was even more annoying because NOW it was true! And Devit's STILL NOT SURE how that happened, actually. He blames Hakuren for it |D he's like "If you hadn't kept fucking SAYING IT like that, I never would have liked you!" Somehow Hakuren DID THIS to him with the power of his words! Devit really doesn't want to admit that Hakuren "won," which is why he's so reticent to admit to anyone that he likes Hakuren or that they're friends. Like, with Mika? He is really open about "You make me feel good to be around, I like you a lot, we're friends, yay!" And in general, that's how Devit is, on the very rare occasion that he makes a friend and is comfy with them. But with Hakuren he's like "Dammit . . . that stupid prissy priest won >( I'm gonna keep denying it!"

HE KNOWS HAKUREN KNOWS, THOUGH. That Devit considers him a friend, anyway. Devit is funny because he gets pissed when he's called on things, but he also gets REALLY CONFUSED when he's not. Like if he tells someone "I DON'T HAVE A CRUSH ON MICHAEL!" and they believe him, he goes all like "Wait what huh whu?!?!?" Because he just assumes people can see through his lies. He hates it, but he assumes it's true. So he just kinda assumes that Hakuren understands that they ARE friends, that he IS lonely, that he DOES want friends even though he feels he shouldn't, and so on. But he doesn't want to say it. This is why he won't explain "dibs"--well, that and the fact that he's totally confused himself about the dibs thing anyway, like, it's supposed to mean "prey," but REALLY it means "I'd destroy anyone who touched them," and that's not supposed to be AN ISSUE unless it's because he wants to kill them first! But in Hakuren's case, he doesn't want to kill him, much. I say much because in a very very small way that he hardly thinks about, Devit wants to kill everyone he loves, because the Bonds should be alone, and also because APPARENTLY killing the person you love is the first thing a Noah's instinct forces them to do when they awaken |D thanks recent canon! And those feelings still live inside him. But he doesn't actually WANT TO DO IT, and yes, he would be extremely upset if Hakuren ever died and he would completely end whomever was responsible.

BECAUSE, LIKE . . . like I said, he found Hakuren interesting, easy to talk to, worthy of A LITTLE RESPECT for a human, and yeah he still wanted to knock him down a peg or five just because it would feel good.

(Incidentally, as a side note, I should mention that every time this happens, Devit becomes more physically affectionate. YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED THIS. At first Devit wouldn't touch Hakuren much other than in sort of mean ways, like pulling his hair. Then the cabin thread happened and Hakuren was pissed and screaming at Shuri and acting like a child, and Devit started draping on him just a little bit, lightly, because in Devit's mind that incident knocked him off his pedestal a little. Then he found out Hakuren liked someone, and he started hanging off of him more and messing with his hair. Then the mistletoe happened and Devit thought it was SO FUNNY how awkward and bad Hakuren was that he kind of attacked him in the subsequent thread and messed up his hair and then brushed it out for him again, and since then he hangs all over him. THIS PROGRESSION HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN A DEVIT-LOGICAL WAY, OKAY. He gets rapier every time Hakuren does something . . . cute, for lack of a better word, although Devit would say "retarded" and not admit that "cute" was what he was thinking.)

That was a tangent. ANYWAY.

That was how the relationship started, and then Hakuren started using the F word (friends, okay--!) and Devit is really twitchy about that kind of thing, ESPECIALLY with humans. It's just . . . I essayed on it, you remember :( It's HIM and it's the Noah and the Bonds and his memories of God killing everyone else in the world. He can never really NOT believe that everyone is going to leave him in the end, because it's all he knows in life. And it's even worse for humans, humans are the ones who turned on him and called him a monster when he became a Noah, and humans are the ones who were so sinful that God had to kill them all, and so on. And humans die. And yeah. He just . . . isn't capable of thinking that any human will ever stick by him or love him. But he's needy and lonely enough and he likes the feeling enough that he's topped by it, even though he's convinced that it's temporary. Devit doesn't REALLY believe Hakuren when he says they're friends and he'll stick by him and whatnot. But he doesn't know what to think when Hakuren doesn't run. Sometimes he tries to MAKE Hakuren run--even moreso when he was Jasdevi, because he's at his most Noah when he's Jasdevi, and he also had Jasdero's influence in there telling him to push people awaaaaay, the Bonds only need the Bonds! BUT HAKUREN DOESN'T LEAVE. :( And Devit is still convinced that someday he WILL and he can't deal with that, and he's mad at himself because he knows it'll fucking hurt and he doesn't want humans to be able to hurt him in that way anymore. But he's not strong enough to break contact because Hakuren feels sooooooo gooooooood. Please don't call me a disgusting monster and run away because I'll cry and that's really embarrassing ._____.

Oh yeah, and there's that ONE LAST THING complicating things which is that, Y'KNOW, Devit wants to bang Hakuren really really bad. AGAIN, when they met, he totally didn't think Hakuren was attractive and was all pissy that Hakuren kept SAYING he did. SHUT UP I'M NOT GAY I DON'T LIKE YOU YOU'RE TOO PRISSY UGH. But actually, Hakuren really is his type physically if not stylistically, because he's around his age, not huge or excessively MANLY in figure (o Ribbons |D), good-looking, smug and smirky, and has really nice long hair (THANKS, JASDERO, FOR THAT FETISH. THANKS). And as they got to know each other better and become friends, that started to ping a little more for Devit, plus again there was the whole dynamic of "THIS GUY IS PRISSY AND HAUGHTY AND UNTOUCHABLE which makes me want to touch him." In bed. :(

So yes. The first time with the mistletoe was. An accident. The second time (after they broke off, Devit told him he sucked, and then went back for seconds) was deliberate. The third time (after they'd been sitting there for awhile and then Devit pointed out that they were still near it, WHOOPS!) was deliberate. The FOURTH time (stalking him down the church hallway) was deliberate. WHEREVER THERE IS MISTLETOE AND YOU, RIBBONS, I WILL BE THERE, PRETENDING THAT IT WAS A COINCIDENCE. :DDD . . . He knows Hakuren isn't attracted to him. And he knows it wouldn't like, make any sense or work out anyway and Hakuren will never like him and blah blah Jasdero blah blah Teito Frau Mikage celibacy Bonds human Noah AND SO ON. And actually it doesn't bother him that much, even though he crushes on Hakuren liek whoa--he's never angsted over it or felt jealous of Frau or Teito, and he probably never will unless they like, get really touchy-feely in front of him or something (he was a LITTLE jealous of Teito shampooing Hakuren's hair just because. THE HAIR!!). But still, he kinda wishes that he could just lock himself and Hakuren into a closet for like, three hours, with a ton of mistletoe, and just rape him with it over and over. :(

This is also why he thinks it's kind of funny that Hakuren calls him a kid a lot, and why he warned him one time to be careful what he wished for--Devit knows that jumping on Hakuren and messing up his hair is childish, but the ADULT ALTERNATIVE would be shoving him up against a wall and trying to get his robes off, so Devit's kind of like "lol you should be glad I'm being childish, Ribbons~" This is also what he was referring to when Hakuren took him back to the cabin the other night and he was like "If I weren't so tired, guess what I would do right now." HINT: IT WASN'T KICKING HIS ASS.
